Morning Announcements

The following announcements can be used each day to help keep students motivated and engaged. Be sure to add any specific details about upcoming fun fundraising events and classroom results.

Week 1

Monday: Good Morning, our school has accepted the challenge of helping to find a cure for Blood Cancer! We are joining over 29,000 schools across the nation to make a difference and raise as much money as we can! Over the next 3 weeks our school will be working to reach a goal of $___________. A letter has been provided to take home to your parents that talks about Pennies for Patients and has instructions for setting up your very own online giving page. Be sure to set that up soon and start saving lives.

Tuesday: Exciting News! As of today ____students have created online giving pages! Can we reach _____students by the end of the week? We have raised over $___________ online already and it has only been 24 hours! Do you know what blood cancer is? It is a disease that occurs in the blood. Our blood is made up of three types of cells: red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. Blood cancer crowds out the healthy blood cells so they can’t do their jobs. Do you know what the treatments for cancer are called? Tune in tomorrow to see if you’re correct, and keep those donations coming!

Wednesday:  When someone has a blood cancer, they have to go through treatment for a long time— sometimes as long as three years, or more! Did you know that some of the treatments for blood cancers are chemotherapy, radiation and bone marrow transplant? The money we raise will help cancer patients all over the world! Keep up the good work bringing in those coins, dollars and online donations— together we’re making a difference, not someday, but today!

Thursday:  I am excited to give you an update on our Pennies for Patients program! Students here at ______________________________ school are teaming up to bring in spare change and raise money online to fight cancer. Did you know that Harriet Tubman, an abolitionist who helped rescue slaves, will replace Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill? Hers will be the first of many images of important women to be featured on American currency over the next several years. What other notable women do you think will be included?

Friday:  We are so excited to announce how our first week went collecting for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Online we have raised $___________ so far and we have raised $___________ overall! Congratulations to ____________________ (winning teacher) for raising the most money this week. This weekend is a great opportunity to get some online donations. It’s easy! After you create your page, ask your parents if you can share it on their Facebook and Twitter. Donations can come from anywhere in the world. Let’s see who can get a donation from the farthest away! On Monday we will announce the student who received the donation that traveled the farthest distance!

Week 2

Monday:  Today we start our second week of Pennies for Patients. I hope you brought in all the coins and dollars you collected over the weekend. Last week we raised $___________ to help cure cancer and this week we want to raise even more! I’m excited to announce the student that received the online donation from the farthest away. _______ (student name) received a donation from _______ (location of online donation)!! That donation traveled _______ miles to help our school in the fight against cancer! How far can you go?

Tuesday:  The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Many treatments discovered through LLS funding are now used for many other diseases. Donations from Pennies for Patients help families of patients pay for medicines, doctors or other expenses, and also help fund research focused on finding a cure. How many families will we help through Pennies for Patients?

Wednesday:  Did you know that U.S. paper money is not paper? It’s cloth. In Ben Franklin’s day, people repaired torn bills with a needle and thread! Do you know what denomination Ben Franklin’s picture is on? He’s on the $100 bill. One hundred dollars in donations to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society helps fund the First Connection Program, a peer-to-peer program that matches newly diagnosed patients and their families with trained volunteers. With our donations, we’re making that happen!

Thursday:  Did you know the number 13 is represented on the dollar bill several times: there are 13 arrows, 13 leaves in the olive branch, 13 stars, and 13 stripes on the shield. Thirteen stands for the original 13 colonies that formed the United States. Last year, students across the country raised 28 Million Dollars! Stacked on top of one another that is enough pennies to make it around the world 1.3 times! But The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Student Series is more than just finding pennies; it is about finding a cure! Thanks to schools like ours, LLS is supporting life-saving research and making cures happen not someday, but today!

Friday:  It’s Friday! Friday! Friday! I am so excited to announce our second week totals! We are Changemakers and making a difference not just Today but EVERY DAY! Online our school has reached exciting new heights and has raised $___________, in total with our classroom collections we have raised an amazing $_________! Way to make a BIG DIFFERENCE!! Next week is our final week so let’s finish strong! This weekend we have a special challenge for you. Try to find as much money as you can with the year of your birth on it! Make sure you check those Dollar Bills! Also don’t forget to send people to your online giving page!

Week 3

Monday:  Roel is the Pennies national hero for this school year. You’ve probably seen his picture on the posters and coin boxes. In March 2011, when Roel was in the first grade, he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. After more than 3 years of chemotherapy, Roel remains in remission. That’s a great thing because his busy schedule of bike riding and spending time with his family at the beach does not allow any more time for cancer.

Tuesday:  Online giving is bringing change to the way we raise money and awareness for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Did you know the average online donation is $25! I challenge you to make a short video about why raising money for LLS is important to you. Share your video and webpage with your family and friends so they can support your efforts and you can be a lifesaver! Let’s see who can make the most creative video to get online donations!

Wednesday:  Have you ever thought about how long money lasts? A $1 bill lasts 18 months; a $5 bill, two years; a $10 bill, three years; a $20 bill, four years; and $50 and $100 bills, nine years. Coins can usually survive for about 30 years. The U.S., Mint estimates that there is 13 BILLION dollars in loose change laying around in the US! Where is it laying around in your house?

Thursday:  Did you know that the money you are raising will help fund research? In medicine, research means the careful study of a disease with the goal of finding a cure. Your donations will help fund 480 researchers in 15 different countries on five continents! Since its founding in 1949, the Society has invested more than $1 billion for LLS research specifically targeting leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. We are proud to be a part of funding that research!

Friday:  Congratulations! Our school has completed the challenge of helping The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society find cures for blood cancer! You did your part and worked so hard to raise so much money! Thank you for your hard work! The teachers will be tallying the donations and by next week we will have a GRAND total to share.
Thanks to our contributions and those from schools all over the United States, patients like Roel will be able to go beyond surviving and live a long and happy life. So raise your right hand, now bend your elbow, and pat yourself on your back! Great job!
