Heritage Trails Elementary School in Moore, Oklahoma, has participated in Pasta for Pennies for the last five years. Our school has a student that was diagnosed with leukemia when he was a toddler. We decided that we wanted to show support for him and join this program to help other families like his. Every year that our school has participated, the donations have increased. The students look forward to this event during the school year. Our school has donated over $55,000 in the five years we have participated.
Our students look at this as an opportunity to give back. They are able to see that this directly affects one of our own students, while learning about pediatric cancers. Our school and community work together like family to achieve our fundraising goal.
Heritage Trails begins the campaign by making a committee to come up with ideas that can engage the school to raise money. We come up with fun dress-up days, sell novelty items, pie teachers in the face and set an overall goal. Last year, our principal decided that if our school raised $25,000 he would shave his head. We also had students join him in the celebration if they met their individual fundraising goal.
We are excited to kick off our campaign this year to help LLS!
