How is the money spent?
Donations are spent on patient and community services, research, public health and professional education. For more information, please visit LLS.org.
Can we donate more than pennies?
Yes! All coins, paper money, checks and online donations are graciously accepted.
Who should checks be made out to and where should we mail our funds?
All checks can be made payable to “The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.” Mail all donations to your local chapter.
Can we donate the funds we raise directly to a local family?
Funds that are raised on behalf of LLS cannot be earmarked for a particular patient. However, funds raised by more than 29,000 schools assist in serving all patients, as well as funding innovative research worldwide to find cures.
How do I count the money our students collect?
Please refer to the Coins & Donation Management page in your Coordinator Guide to determine what method will work best for your school.
What is an Honored Hero?
Honored Heroes are local student survivors of leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma. Posters of Honored Heroes are included in the materials as a way to help students connect to the mission of LLS.
Can we write letters to our Honored Hero?
Yes! Students are encouraged to write letters to their Honored Hero. They should be sent to the LLS chapter office.
What are these little boxes for?
Elementary and middle schools receive boxes for each classroom and individual boxes for each student. The individual boxes allow the students to “take home” the LLS Students Series to their families, and provide an easy way to carry change back to school. Please note that the individual boxes are not intended for door-to-door collection.
Do you offer lesson plans or service learning materials?
Yes! For a comprehensive list of lesson plans, please visit the Service Learning Programs section in each grade level.
Who qualifies for a pizza/pasta party?
Please check with your School Coordinator for the amount that needs to be raised in order to qualify for a pizza/pasta party for the top classroom or group.
Can we have a different type of party?
In some cases, schools prefer to have other celebrations like donut and juice parties. In this case, you may request a Party Reimbursement Form. We can reimburse up to $50 for a party of your choice.
Can we still participate if we can’t report or submit our funds by the money turn in deadline?
Yes, but your school may not be eligible for all prizes and incentives. Please consult with a Student Series Team Member for details.
Can I donate online and/or ask friends or other family members to donate?
Yes! Find your school page by clicking the red DONATE button at the top right of the website. Many classrooms will have a class page under the school page. Also, find resources for sharing the page (sample emails, social media posts, and more) in TechTools section of each grade level.
