Despite progress, more than a third of blood cancer patients still do not survive five years after their diagnosis.

A powerful and personal opportunity
Students of the Year candidates are high school students who are interested in and enthusiastic about volunteerism, philanthropy, community outreach, and leadership
They learn skills such as:
- Networking (outreach, sponsorship requests)
- Communication (email and letter writing)
- Event management. (organizing and running fundraising events)
- Presentation skills (sponsorship requests)
- Entrepreneurship (coming up with and running fundraising events)
- Financial planning and goal setting
- Leadership (working with and guiding a team)
Mentorship
- Candidates and teams work with staff and volunteers (such as local Board and committees) from LLS
- Opportunities to partner with community organizations and local companies during their campaign
Recognition
- Students are recognized in various ways in the local community (LLS staff work with local media to publicize the campaign)
- Great for college applications, volunteer hours, high school leadership programs, such as National Honor Society, and work applications.
