Christbridge Academy in Azusa, California has been participating in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Pennies for Patients campaign for the last 12 years! They participate in this program for many reasons, but the main reason is service to others. They feel connected to LLS’s mission because many students and faculty at their school have been touched by cancer in one way or another. So they want to do something to help others with cancer. In 2004, the first year they participated, they collected $1,530. After 12 campaigns, this 70-student school has raised $98,686.42 for LLS!

The school begins their campaign about two months out, and culminates with a community walk/festival at a local park. The city mayor and other local civic leaders also get involved and support their efforts. Students and staff are very motivated to help others and create awareness by educating others about blood cancers, the impact on families and the need for supporting the mission.

The students and faculty make sure to have fun while working hard to raise money for this important cause. They have a Spirit Week, a Pennies bake sales and Principal challenges. They send letters to friends and family, contact local businesses and much more! At the community festival, teachers, students and family members make a final push for fundraising and celebrate their results. 

The students look forward to their Pennies for Patients campaign every year and enjoy their opportunity to help other children fight cancer! The 70 students, faculty and parent community at Christbridge Academy were very excited to donate $27,520 last year and can't wait to get started for this year!
