Students of the Year is a seven-week initiative in which motivated high school students across the nation participate in a spirited fundraising competition, develop their leadership and communication skills, learn about volunteerism, philanthropy, and how to engage with their communities for a cause. Student candidates will raise funds to benefit the life-saving mission of LLS and honor local heroes who are currently battling or in remission from a blood cancer.
The top fundraising candidate or team of candidates at the end of the seven-week challenge earns the title “Student(s) of the Year” as well as a $2,500 scholarship to the college or university of his/her choice. In addition, there are Citizenship Awards awarded to students who excel in Volunteerism, Community Involvement and Mission Focus. This program not only offers visibility in the community, but also a platform for candidates to demonstrate their excellence in leadership and community engagement for college applications and professional resumes.
