Austin 

Austin was diagnosed 5-14-11, he did pretty well through treatment, had minimal complications. He had cranial radiation and then entered maintenance. 6 months into that, we found out that he relapsed on a routine blood test. We then had to find a bone marrow donor. Luckily, we found 2 and chose the best one and proceeded to transplant on 2-28-13. He did great and sailed thru the process. 3 months later, on a routine bone marrow biopsy, it was found that he had residual disease and would relapse again. Our options were limited and Austin would have had maybe 6 months to live. Fortunately, there was a phase one clinical trial being offered only in Philadelphia at the time. Luckily Austin qualified and we proceeded to have Austin's cells collected and sent to Philly where they would be programed to seek out and kill his cancer using his own immune system. He became the 21st pediatric patient in the world to have this done. It worked and he is now 22 months cancer free!
